Peak Performance is the new sponsor of one of the world’s most spectacular adventure races – the Red Bull X-Alps. As an official clothing sponsor, Peak Performance will equip all competitors with parts of its Technical Sports collection. The company will also be fully sponsoring one of the favorites, Michael Gebert of Germany.
The Red Bull X-Alps is an extremely physically challenging contest, where 24 athletes from all around the world compete night and day to be the first to cross the Alps on foot and by hang glider. Starting on July 23 from Krippenstein, Austria, the contestants climb to the peak of Dachstein (2,995 m) over a glacier. From there, they hang glide toward the southwest. They reach their destination, Monaco, some 20 days later, after passing Marmolada Peak (3,342 m) in Italy, Eiger (3,070 m) in Switzerland and Mont Blanc (4,807 m) in France. The total distance is 850 km – as the crow flies!
“The setup of this contest is incredibly demanding of the participants, and therefore of the clothes they wear. This is the perfect opportunity for us to show what Peak Performance gear can do. Despite the rough terrain, modern technology will allow us to monitor the race minute by minute, making it the perfect arena to communicate the brand and our Technical Sports collection. It also increases our presence in the Central European outdoor scene,” says Anders Norin, sponsoring manager at Peak Performance.
The competitors will be watched over by the most advanced technology on the market today. With flash-equipped digital cameras, the racers will report in daily to www.redbullxalps.com. In addition, spectators can see the exact position of the competitors through Live 3D monitoring on Google Earth.

In addition to sponsoring the event, Peak Performance has also allied itself with one of the competing teams, Michael Gebert and his supporter Christian Maier. Michael is 26 and from Germany. He works as an instructor and has won several hang gliding competitions, such as the Bavarian Open in 2002 and Para Bavaria in 2004. In 2005 Michael came in 5th in the Red Bull X-Alps. Each competitor has a supporter who helps them with food, equipment and information. Christian is also 26 and a former hang glider pilot.
